He also mentioned some of the same fees in two different categories?!? When I questioned this he said ok, ok, have a nice day and hung up! Seriously? That's how they handle customer service? I continued to question him on the fees asking for specifics of the "handling charges" which he could not explain. My credit score is in the excellent range and I have never missed a payment. I should mention I owe less than half the value of my home on the mortgage. I asked if they could match someone else's rate after the fact, why they couldn't just offer it now. When I questioned that he said if I find a lower rate with better terms somewhere else they would match it. The rep became defensive and told me how little margin they work on. 75% rate decrease and then said closing costs would be $10,000! It would take me over 8 years to break even! I told him I would consider the offer but that I was speaking with other lenders as $10,000 seemed a bit on the high side for closing costs. I called to see if they could lower my rate. I have gotten multiple emails from PennyMac who has my mortgage now. I am receiving multiple phone calls as well as emails from various Mortgage companies encouraging me to refinance my mortgage into a lower rate.
